Stack-Up: PRIME Charity Wrap-Up

From May 26th, 2017 to May 29th, 2017 dedicated Tenno in the Warframe community participated in a 72 hour charity stream to benefit Stack-Up.org. Here, stream organizer and Warframe Partner SlapstickLogic explains how this wonderful event came to be, and why this community is so important to him. Event Recap

After a long 75 Hour weekend, the Warframe community, with the help of a $6,000 donation from Digital Extremes, was able to raise a grand total of $17,259 for Stack-Up. Stack-Up is a 501(c)(3) charity organization that supports actively deployed veterans across 28 countries by supplying them with crates containing a wide variety of gaming and geek culture items to enjoy while actively engaged in duty for their countries. This was the first time that I had organized an event of this scale and the support offered by the community was admittedly humbling. Each caster, moderator and viewer came together to achieve more than we had ever imagined. The collective effort was astounding and with this one in the books, we can begin looking forward to the next major charity community event!

Planning

I was contacted by Stephen Machuga, the CEO of Stack-Up, after a recommendation from fellow Warframe Partner wgrates. Mr. Machuga had heard what the Warframe community was capable of and did not hold back when outlining what he expected for this stream. With the help of Zopney and early stage planning assistance from Shul, we sought out to create an event of epic proportions. We wanted to ensure that we were being as inclusive as possible so when it came to “Well, who should we ask?” it was a simple answer: “Everyone.” So the challenge soon became “How can we do this stream in a way that everyone hears about this to the best of our ability?” We immediately contacted the folks at Digital Extremes (DE) and took to Twitter! Once we had a few casters in the mix and our mod team began to grow, we opened up a suggestions pool and reached out to anyone and everyone! Our only stipulation was that all volunteers had to be willing to support the event to the best of their ability. This, however, was no challenge for the amazing and dedicated broadcasters within our community. With our team created, schedule mocked up and goal in mind, we began the hype-up that would become Stack-Up: PRIME!

Community

Keeping the community together has always been at the forefront of my mind. I’m the type of person who fails to see the benefit in playing favorites or maintaining a level of bias when planning events that would ultimately involve the love and care of our entire community. While I agree that certain restrictions may seem daunting at first, there is always a work around. Who am I to deny someone the opportunity to pitch in and show their support anyway they can? I love this community with all that I am so I will bend over backwards to facilitate cooperation and collaboration. I’ve met some truly fantastic Tenno during my time in the Warframe community and I’ve come to realize that through thick and thin, we will always come together. This, above all else, is the pinnacle of what it means to be a community. When people set aside their personal problems for a moment and focus on the bigger picture, you get to witness some incredible things and Stack-Up: PRIME is the perfect example of that!

Inclusivity

The beauty of an event that is as inclusive at the start as it is towards the end is that you really begin to see who shares this same community-minded mentality; the belief that some things are bigger than ourselves as individuals. We had a commanding list of broadcasters across Twitch and YouTube that signed up for timeslots during the event and an even greater number of backups that were just as active behind the scenes as they were in chat. PenguinTat was one such broadcaster. A non Warframe partnered broadcaster from within our beloved community that jumped up immediately to fill in when she was needed after a mere moment’s notice. My fear of exclusivity is that if it weren’t for the fact that we were inclusive of others, we may not have had the opportunity to showcase such a wonderful, loving, kind and caring individual such as PenguinTat. I feel it is vitally important to include as much of your home community as possible for this reason. Every event that I take part in organizing from this point forward will be as inclusive as possible and will ensure that broadcasters from all walks of life share in the warmth of this community. We must remain vigilant in our efforts to ensure that zero negativity is bred and that we eliminate false pretenses of entitlement and remember that the community is larger than those that sit at the head as Partners. Folks such as Shul, DKDiamantes , wgrates, Frozenbawz and many others taught me that if we want to strive to make this community the best community there is, then we need to work from the ground up to ensure that entitlement doesn’t exist. Work for your community and your community will back you ten times out of ten. Digital Extremes has shown massive amounts of love and support to those that promote positivity and we intend to foster that relationship further by ensuring the decisions we make as Partners don’t radiate negativity to anyone who calls the Warframe directory home.

The Road Ahead

With Stack-Up: PRIME completed and everyone returning to their daily routine, we now carry a sense of accomplishment that is unlike anything we’ve felt before. I look at the amount raised for veterans across 28 countries, I replay the VODs from each and every three hour block, I check back on our event Discord server and I look forward to each day with a new outlook. This community has done so much for me and I feel I am far from done with giving back. Our team is actively at work searching for new opportunities, new broadcasters, and new drive to ensure that the positivity generated from this event doesn’t go to waste. As far as what comes next, there are just a few things we already have in the works. A massive charity event to span over an entire month and even closer than that, a 24 hour Warframe speedrunning event to kick off sometime in July! It goes without saying that we will continue to expand our reach and spread these good vibes everywhere we go. I personally will never stop showing love for my community and I believe that when we all come together for a unified purpose, nothing is unattainable. You all have shown me that these things happen for a reason and it makes me proud to consider myself a member of this family. With all of that being said, please make sure you check out each and every person who assisted in the overwhelming success of this event and never forget that you are all awesome. Keep up the positive energy, never forget that community is the key and always remember to stay awesome.
