A visit to Edward and Manchester

On July 21st, [DE]Taylor found a tweet from the Rays of Sunshine organization about getting in touch with us for a Warframe-related wish. The team quickly shared and responded to the tweet - being in Canada we weren't familiar with the organization so the more we learned the more we hoped we could help. Rays of Sunshine is an incredible UK-based organization that grants wishes for children living with terminal or life-limiting illness.

A week later, plans were well under way to meet one of our dedicated Tenno, Edward. Edward had wished for some in-game items for Warframe. This wish happened to come on the heels of TennoCon and we just happened to have a lot of cool Warframe merchandise right with us in the office in London, Ontario. Upon hearing about Edward’s wish, our Creative Director, Steve, jumped at the chance to meet this Tenno. We packed our suitcases full of Warframe stuff, stuffed a laptop in our bags, and off we went.

On the laptop we took with us was something that would delight any Warframe player - especially one who tuned into TennoLive only weeks earlier. Edward is just such a player. We learned that since his cancer diagnosis last year, he picked up Warframe as something to occupy him during his treatment. In under a year he is already Mastery Rank 20 - a seasoned veteran ready for what's next. His older brother William even started playing and now they have some inside jokes that we had the privilege of hearing.

As Edward walked in to meet us with his wonderful family, we asked him if he wanted to be the first person to play the Plains of Eidolon developer build, and he said yes right away! In his time with the game we laughed, chatted, and tried to figure out just how far he could slide his Oberon Prime down the mountains on the Eidolon Landscape (maybe you'll find out the answer in a coming achievement he proposed). Three hours of Plains sliding, Eidolon destroying gaming later, his family reminded him they had to get home and let the dogs out so our meeting came to an end.

We of course granted Edward’s original wish of some in-game items - but making the trip to Manchester to meet with someone who found comfort in our game during a time of sickness was something we needed to do. Many of us at the office have had our lives affected by illness and the possibility of bringing joy to someone's recovery process was an important thing.

We are humbled and honored that Edward’s wish was Warframe related and we are so thankful to have had the pleasure to spend time with such a dedicated Tenno and his family. Thank you, Edward. We look forward to seeing you out there in the Solar System!

A big thank you, too, to Julie on our end and to Rays of Sunshine for making this visit possible! For more info about Rays of Sunshine or to make a donation to help other children’s wishes come true, please visit raysofsunshine.org.uk.
