Tournament Portau Rules
The October 31st Portau games will be played using the following rules, specifically tuned for the purposes of the tournament and livestream. Since Portau is still in active development for release later this year in the Tau update, these are subject to change.
- Cards must be placed in their matching slot (ex: Ace card in Ace slot) and in the following order from left to right (Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King).
- Points are earned based on where you place a card in relation to the cards on the board. Here are the 3 tiers of points you can earn (read example below for visualization):
- 2 points = Played card is not in between two cards
- 4 points = Played card is in between two cards with unequal distance
- 7 points = Played card is in between two cards with equal distance
- Jokers:
- Jokers can be played in any open slot and use the same points system.
- If you have a card that matches the slot where a Joker is, you can steal that Joker from the board (no points earned for this action, end turn).
- If you have playable card(s) in your hand, it must be played in your turn OR you can spend 2 points to trade a card for a new one (see Discard details below for specifics).
- Discarding Cards:
- Spend 2 points to trade a card in your hand for a new one from the dealer/deck. You can do this once per turn.
- If you receive a playable card, you can play it immediately.
- If you do not receive a playable card, and you have no other playable cards, end turn.
- If you have no playable cards, you can discard your entire hand to get all new cards, but sacrifice your turn.
- Note: You cannot discard your whole hand if you have a playable card.
- Spend 2 points to trade a card in your hand for a new one from the dealer/deck. You can do this once per turn.
Example Board:
_ 2 _ 4 _ _ _ _ 9 _ _ _ K
You play Ace = 2 points
A 2 _ 4 _ _ _ _ 9 _ _ _ K
The ace is not in between cards.
You play 6 = 4 points
_ 2 _ 4 _ 6 _ _ 9 _ _ _ K
Distance is unequal between cards, there is 1 slot on the left, and 2 on the right of the 6.
You play Jack = 7 points
_ 2 _ 4 _ _ _ _ 9 _ J _ K
Distance is equal, there is a 1 slot on the left and 1 on the right of the Jack.
