Let’s get started with Shivecu!

Shivecu

Warframe: Citrine
Pronouns: She/Her
Socials: Twitter

Hello Shivecu! Can you give us an introduction of who you are and what you enjoy most in Warframe?

“Hello! My name's Shivecu, I am a digital artist from Lithuania. I work on a variety of art projects such as comics/graphic novels, writing short stories. My favorite thing about Warframe are the Warframes themselves.”

“I am interested in their designs and how well their story and who they are about is told through their design alone. I think the best examples of that are Kullervo, Dante, Voruna, Jade and Xaku.”

Your art is so colorful! What are your personal inspirations?

“A couple of artists that come to mind are Italian artists Alessandro Barbucci and Barbara Canepa. Back in 2000's they worked on a Disney graphic novel titled W.I.T.C.H. It was about 5 magical girls and how they handle being guardians of the magic realms and everyday struggles of a teenager. And currently they are working on a separate comic titled SkyDoll, about a Robot/Doll who wants to have autonomy over life. The artstyle in both comic series have incredibly detailed backgrounds and the colors pop so beautifully in them, especially in Skydoll. Every comic book panel looks like its own separate art piece.”

“I strive to achieve the level of detail in my artwork be it with Warframe fan art or my own comics and illustrations, and I think I have at least achieved vibrant colours part of it.”

You draw a wide variety of different Warframes in several scenarios – how do you approach these art pieces?

“When I draw Warframes I want my artwork to just make sense for the Warframe(s) in particular to be in a said scenario. Like Gyre dancing in the spotlight, Voruna Medeina being in the Forest with a wolf who offers her a Midsummer Wreath, or Sirius and Orion just duking it out on Venus. For more serious art I want warframes to be in character.”

We adore the Tarot card series you’ve been working on! What a huge project! Please tell us more about that process!

“It was a bit of a lightning in a bottle idea. I wanted to do a bit of a challenge for myself. Checked if no one had done the Major arcana deck and decided to do it. The first step was deciding what Warframe is going to be on what card.”

“There were a couple of rewrites and also a couple of people have commissioned their Warframes to be a part of the deck, however, it didn't impact the main vision I had. Specific rewrites included Card of strength, originally Stynax was supposed to be instead of Valkyr. Dagath was supposed to be either in Chariot or Death card but it was switched to Yareli and Nekros respectively. And the hanged man was originally supposed to be Kullervo instead of Ash.”

“I was thinking it would take me around 3 months to draw all 22 cards, but some life events and burnout did affect the speed of the project. I am kind of happy that it took longer because I managed to include more Warframes like Koumei and deluxe skins that were coming out around that time.”

They are truly beautiful! How did you approach creating this Citrine Glyph?

“Like with every Warframe art I do I wanted to make sense of Citrine's character. She is a guardian Warframe to Belric and Rania so I wanted to show that she is related to them, specifically so the sides of the Glyph have their shards.”

“I'd say the biggest challenge was figuring out how to draw crystals that are in her body, but after trying out a couple of different brushes I've eventually figured it out. I am really happy how her shards look vibrant!”

Her crystals look stunning! Thank you for drawing Citrine so vibrantly!

Next up we have FrostyNovaPrime with our first ice themed Warframe, Frost!

FrostyNovaPrime

Warframe: Frost
Pronouns: She/Her
Socials: Bluesky

Hello FrostyNovaPrime! Can you give us a quick snippet of who you are and what you enjoy most about Warframe?

“Hi, I'm Frosty! Resident Frost main, hobby artist when I can be, and I'm currently in my 4th year of veterinary school on track to graduate next summer!”

“I started playing Warframe back in August of 2015. Since the very beginning of my journey in the game I've always loved the story and aesthetics with its weird fantastical take on sci-fi. It was always such a cool and obscure take on the classic tropes you could find in any dystopian-adjacent future yet even then if I even dare try explaining it to anyone we'd both end up confused haha. You just... you just gotta play the game. That's the best way to explain and experience Warframe.”

“Even now 11 years later, Warframe still remains one of my top comfy games I launch when I got the rare bits of free time between my clinical rotations.”

11 years! Thank you for being part of the Community for so long! How would you describe your art style?

“The best way I can describe my style is an amalgamation of your typical anime and Disney styles with bright pop-art effects.”

“I've always been drawn to the dynamic and expressive nature of animated media my entire life, and I try my best to do the same in my own drawings. The harsh contrast of a cartoon-ish style helps separate myself from the reality of life and escape into an imaginary world, which is exactly what I want to do when I draw. Sometimes it works out for how I envision a specific piece, and sometimes the more cutesy aspects of my style gets in the way of what I might have been meaning to convey for the more serious ones, but I've learned to roll with it where I can.”

“I'm by no means a professional artist nor will I ever be, but as long as I'm happy with what I made with my own two hands and my tablet pen I take it as a win.”

We appreciate the cute and serious manners! What is your approach when it comes to drawing Warframes?

“Whenever I draw a Warframe I always ask myself: How can I fudge all these weird lines and squiggles and still make it look like them? Warframes are definitely not designed with an amateur artist like me in mind! So I identify what I think to be the most defining features of their designs, or what I want to be a central focus for composition, and then I fill in all the extra space in between.”

“TLDR: Don't ask me why my Steam hours are double that of my in-mission count…”

You capture them well! What aspects of Frost did you want to implement with this Glyph?

“When it comes to Frost, or ice/snow themed archetypes in any media really, the public consensus is usually that they're a "cool" and aloof, and maybe even a bit intimidating presence among the cast. However I've always seen Frost as also having more of a "chill" persona and even a little silly at times... oh how validated I felt when Techrot Encore introduced us to his Protoframe Velimir!”

“So of course, I had to portray him like this in some way. I probably made close to 20 different sketches within the hour of taking on this project, exploring the full range of ice-cold-badass to chilly-silly-guy. The laid back pose DE and I agreed upon was a great happy medium between the two, and the snowball is a given reference to his 1999 counterpart and Gemini emote.”

“Also fun fact: Frost's idle animations have 4 different snowflake shapes within the ice particle effects :) So I taught myself how to make a brush in Procreate in order to include them as well!”

Thank you for putting in that extra care, and for drawing Frost!

Next up we have Izeda Datori with Octavia!

Izeda Datori

Warframe: Octavia
Pronouns: They/Them
Socials: Twitter

Hi IzedaDatori! Please tell us about yourself and your art!

“I'm Izeda Datori, a self-taught, freelancing illustrator! I go by Rudaton in games I play. My artworks are quite messy, and I tend to "wing it". Whenever I want to keep my doodles the way they are, I'd get carried away and colour them anyway!”

Beautiful! What are some of your favorite Warframe-related things to create?

“Anything Warframe-related, really! On breaks, I'd look at a bunch of references and Captura that I took in-game, and use them for studies! Sometimes, I'd just open Warframe to spend time looking at details up close instead of playing (whoops). I'd also draw Lettie and her pet rats a lot; they're my most favourite!”

“Since last year, I've been very interested in making my own Protoframe original characters, too! Thinking about the designs and letting them interact with one another feels very fun.”

We love seeing your own original Protoframe characters! What are your personal inspirations during your creative process?

“There's a lot. Other games, books, ideas from friends, personal experiences, and other people that I've met/known!”

“There are also several artists that I look up to (naming a few, Rumiko Takahashi, Kekai Kotaki, Harvey Tolibao, and Milo Manara)! Whenever there are dull days, I'd look at random comic pages or other art materials from them, and think 'oh, maybe I want to try drawing something like this,' and then try learning a new thing or two.”

“Good music drives me to keep creating, as well! I can't help but internalise the message of a song, or visualise the emotion/action in an instrumental. It makes me want to draw something immediately! There's always a good chance that my mind is already drifting away with one song (on repeat) until I complete an illustration. One might hate to become roomies with me (kidding).”

Speaking of music – Which aspects of Octavia did you want to highlight with this Glyph?

“Her energy! I love seeing Octavia with her fun, cool and groovy vibe!”

“Her animation sets in-game were my main source of inspiration, and I wanted to express the said vibes in this piece. I played around her gesture being a mix of three ideas: random candid dance gesture, high-fiving, or doing this ‘I can’t hear you!’ pose to hype up her audience. However it may be interpreted, it still feels animated just like her, if it makes sense.”

“As I mentioned about what music does to my mind, listening to some nice tracks while drawing her also augmented that mood for me. I hope it shows in this piece!”

It definitely shows! Thank you for drawing Octavia while sharing her love for music!

Hi DarikArt! Please tell us a little about yourself and your art!

“Hi, I am Darika aka DarikaArt. I am an artist based in Thailand. I started to draw Warframe themed art in 2013.”

You’ve been part of the Warframe Community for a long time, one of your fan art pieces was even showcased on our very first Prime Time stream over 12 years ago! How would you describe your journey of creating Warframe art?

“My hobby is drawing things that I love and that make me happy.”

“For my first Warframe fan art pieces, I just loved drawing girls, and loved to imagine what if Warframes are human. I drew Mag with a human face and many more after that.”

“Another source of inspiration that keeps me happy to continue drawing is the friendships I've gained over the years from DE and many others who have seen my work, too!”

We appreciate you and your art! What are your personal inspirations?

“For most of my art pieces it's not complicated. I want to draw this character RIGHT NOW. Even if nothing pops up in my head, yet. Just pick up the pen! lol”

How did you approach creating this Sevagoth Glyph?

“It's my favorite main idle pose when he raises his hand.”

Thank you for creating Warframe art for so many years! We love our new Sevagoth glyph!

Last, but definitely not least, Pertti Lancer with Narin!

Pertti Lancer

Warframe: Narin
Pronouns: He/Him
Socials: Instagram

Hello Perrti Lancer! Please tell us a little about yourself and what you enjoy about Warframe!

“I am a concept artist and illustrator who's biggest pleasure comes from drawing, imagining worlds and experiencing worlds that others created. And this is where my love for Warframe comes from. It's more than just gameplay, but a full world that we can experience.”

You’ve created the stunning concept for Valkyr Heirloom, and we adore your more humanoid fan concepts of Warframes as well – what elements of Warframes stand out to you most?

“What attracted me the most about Warframe's visual style and design, is how abstract they can look from the outside while they hold so much character and how intentional they are. They contain elements from a lot of cultures and mediums that get implemented in a new way that work very well with the whole theme of the game.”

Your concepts bring many amazing aspects to light! How would you describe your art style and process?

“I originally started as a traditional artist and used a lot of mediums. It made me care to give my style a painterly look, as it's what feels most natural to me.”

“For my design choices, I find it most interesting to take inspiration from cultures, ornaments or natural elements so I can challenge myself and make each design stand as its own thing, while also learning something new that I didn't know of before.”

At the time of us reaching out to you to draw Narin, all we provided you was her concept design + a short description of her! We hadn’t even shown her on a devstream yet!

What was it like to draw Narin without knowing much more about her? Are there specific aspects you wanted to highlight with this glyph?

“I thought about her being a sword dancer, and how I can express it, so I tried to capture her in motion by making it as if she was about to launch an attack, and added snow floating particles around her to help sell the feeling.”

“As for the design itself, what stood out for me the most was her big rounded part of her hat and the ice in the center of her face, so I tried to make them pop in the illustration.”

Thank you for drawing Narin for us! You captured her admirably!
