The Vallis Undermind: Coming October 15!

D189O

Our next major update, The Vallis Undermind, arrives on October 15! We’ve prepared a teaser video to accompany this date announcement right below.

Playing The Vallis Undermind

In order to access much of the content introduced in The Vallis Undermind, players first must complete The New War.

Arriving in Fortuna, you’ll be led by a mushroom to The Airlock. Here, you can interact with Nightcap, our newest Vendor, who will allow you to purchase and interact with all the new goodies! For a gameplay demonstration, watch here.

To experience the story of The Vallis Undermind, you’ll be feeding The Prince, a budding mushroom near Nightcap, which’ll allow you to experience the visions and story of Nokko and Nightcap, as Rebecca Ford explains and demonstrates here.

The Vallis Undermind unlocks a new part of the Orb Vallis, where players can play Deepmine Bounties in a new tileset. In order to access the new Bounties, Tenno will take Fortuna’s Orb Vallis elevator down—deep into the underground! A mycological marvel, you’ll work to fend off Corpus incursions within these Deepmines.

New Warframe: Nokko

Nokko is our 62nd Warframe; he’s a playful one. He spreads fungi colonies on the battlefield and places an emphasis on physics with his Abilities. For vibes, think Yareli’s little brother.

Passive: Upon receiving fatal damage, Nokko instead reverts to his Sprodling form and will have a limited time to reach the location of a previously placed mushroom. If not reached in time, the Sprodling will fall into slumber, requiring Nokko to be revived.

First Ability: Stinkbrain Throw a mushroom that periodically sheds poisonous spores, inflicting Viral Damage and Status Effect upon nearby enemies.

Second Ability: Brightbonnet Release a rejuvenating mushroom that emits a radial pulse, increasing. Nokko and his allies’ Energy and applying a buff to Ability Strength that lasts for a short time.

Third Ability: Reroot Revert to Sprodling form, causing Nokko to heal rapidly. While in this state, Nokko is untargetable and releases spores that lull nearby enemies to sleep.

Fourth Ability: Sporespring Unleash a chaotic ballistic mushroom that seeks enemies and bounces explosively off whatever it touches. Contact with any of Nokko’s mushrooms invigorates them, doubling their effect triggering rate.

Rebecca Ford explains how Nokko, with his mushroom gardens, will dominate the battlefield.

Signature Archgun

Nokko packs a punch with his Signature Archgun: The Arbucep! Arbucep – Archgun Uproot enemies’ perception of reality. Nokko’s signature archgun fires six homing missiles, each with a payload of a unique combined element which detonates in an area upon impact.

Accompanying Nokko are three new cosmetics!

  • Nokko Mycorrhiza Helmet
  • Sprodling Ephemera
  • Caranthele Syandana

Plus, he’s got idle animations matching his whimsical and cheery personality!

And last, but certainly not least, his Prex Card and Floof:

Damage Attenuation, Screenshake and Quality of Life

Damage Attenuation, as frequently requested, is getting re-worked! For the utmost in-depth explanation, please see our Damage Attenuation and QoL Dev Workshop! It’s a beefy re-work, so please see the Dev Workshop: Damage Attenuation section! Pablo has also provided a video explanation of how Damage Attenuation is being changed here:

Oberon Rework

Our goat(ed) paladin is, at long last, receiving his rework, coming with The Vallis Undermind. Please see Pablo’s video below for an explanation of what to expect! Seeking the full rundown? A lush forest of information can be found here with his Dev Workshop: The Vallis Undermind — Oberon Rework. And, as always, our official patch notes for The Vallis Undermind will have the full details with October 15's release.

General Quality of Life Changes

Screen Shake and Recoil Changes The following changes are being made for Tenno with the Screen Shake Toggle turned off!

  • Removed screen movement when firing guns.
  • Added a diamond to the Reticle, which will be representative of Gun Recoil patterns. The original reticle dot will remain stationary, and the new diamond will move to indicate the weapon’s recoil pattern when the gun is fired!

For Tenno keeping the Screen Shake Toggle turned on, the following weapons will have had their recoil effects reduced:

  • Titania’s Dex Pixia
  • Phantasma
  • MK-1 Braton
  • Twin Grakatas
  • Pyrana
  • Trumna
  • Gorgon
  • Laetum
  • Dual Cestra
  • Buzlok
  • Bubonico

For all the details, please see the Accessibility: Screen Shake & Recoil Changes section of the Damage Attenuation and QoL Dev Workshop.

Motion Controls on PlayStation We are thrilled to introduce Motion Control capabilities to the PlayStation platform! Players can enable this via the new "Toggle Motion Controls" setting launching on PlayStation with The Vallis Undermind.

PS4 and PS5 Tenno looking to make use of this new functionality will be able to toggle it on when the update launches — and refer to the patch notes for final details.

Arcanes in Archguns Heavy Guns are getting even heavier, with the ability to install Archgun Arcane Adapters coming in The Vallis Undermind! Players can earn these through new Deepmine Bounties or by trading with Nightcap.

Each Archgun now comes with two Arcane slots that can be unlocked! Installing an Archgun Arcane Adapter unlocks one Arcane slot. The top can be slotted with Primary Arcanes, and the bottom with Secondary Arcanes.

Nullifier Bubble Ability Interactions Change We’ve changed how a few Warframe’s Abilities interact with Nullifier Bubbles!

  • Frost’s Snow Globe: Nullifier bubbles now drain Snow Globe's life by 20% per second, and cannot gain strength when a Nullifier bubble is touching it.
  • Limbo’s Cataclysm: Now shrinks 4 times faster when touching a Nullifier bubble, instead of being removed instantly.
  • Mag’s Magnetize: Magnetize’s Duration expires 4x faster, but ends instantly if the Nullifier
  • bubble touches the center.
  • Oberon’s Hallowed Ground: No longer removes Hallowed Ground, but protects enemies from Hallowed Ground’s effects.
  • Oraxia’s Webbed Embrace: No longer removes Webbed Embrace, but protects enemies from Webbed Embrace’s effects.

Signas on Operators and Drifters Much like on Warframes, players can now equip Signas on their Operator/Drifter!

Equip Both Sides Toggle If you prefer symmetry in your fashion, we’re adding a "Customize Left/Right Separately" toggle to the Attachments screen! With that toggled off, Shoulder Armor and Leg Armor will apply the same armor piece on both sides.

Increased Color Favorite Palette The number of colors players can favorite has been doubled — from 25 to 50!

Reduced Techrot Spawn in Scaldra Exterminate Missions Those who venture into a Scaldra Faction mission may see more Techrot than they expect— especially if they have a Scaldra-specific Calendar task to complete.

Grineer Asteroid and Relay Relight The Grineer Asteroid Tileset and Relays have received a lighting refresh to use the GI Lighting System.

Grineer Asteroid:

  • New lighting palette to emphasize key environmental elements.
  • Relighting to achieve better pathing and a moodier atmosphere.
  • Removed old dynamic exposure.
  • Completely overhauled the post processing so it now runs on an ACES Workflow.
  • Updated materials to be more PBR compliant.
  • Replaced existing fog with Volumetric Fog.

Here’s a look at the Asteroid before:

The Old Peace is slated for the end of 2025, but we have a few teasers in store for you to get a glimpse of, including a sneak peek at our next Protoframe: Roathe!

We’ve remastered the Operator, as you saw at TennoCon 2025, but the Drifter will also be receiving a remaster, which is aimed to release with The Old Peace at the end of the year.

Bodies have also been decoupled from the face, giving you more freedom to customize your Operator/Drifter! Improved makeup customization, eyebrow customization, eyeglow customization, and more have been updated to 2025 standards. Expect to see even more in the coming Devstreams!

If you’re curious about hair on the Operators/Drifters, we have similarly updated them to our 2025 standards, including 5 dye channels, just like the Gemini Skins.

Thanks for reading, Tenno! We’re looking forward to getting The Vallis Undermind into your hands on October 15
